Wijekoon stamps his class at monthly medal golf

Golfer Indunil Wijekoon won the December Monthly Medal 2025, conducted in conjunction with the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) and sponsored by WASPS Golf Group, once again showed the depth of golfing talent across all categories. 

The spotlight fell on Wijekoon who delivered an outstanding performance to clinch the Overall Nett title with a score of 63 while Kumar Danushan showed his class by securing the Overall Gross win with 69. Danushan further dominated Division A (0–9 handicap) Gross, underlining his consistency, while Adam Fernando emerged the Division A Nett winner with a fine 68, ahead of Romesh Abhayaratne.

In Division B (10–18 handicap), competition was intense as Afflli Raheem claimed a double, winning both the Nett (66, back nine) and Gross (78) titles, edging out Prabath Gamage in the Nett category. 

The Division C (19–28 handicap) belonged to Indunil Wijekoon, who added the Nett title to his overall success, while Andy Anderson secured the Gross honours. Upkeep Kuruppu was runner up with a score of 65.

The senior categories also produced commendable performances. Sunimal Salgado won the Seniors Nett, with Kumar Boralessa taking the Seniors Gross and Seniors Nett runner up with a score of 71. In the Masters division, T. P. Ramaranjan impressed with a brilliant 61 Nett, while Bandula Weerasinghe topped the Gross segment. Anura Somaratne was runner up in the Masters nett division. Junior accolades went to Lithum Silva (Nett) and Jacob Norton (Gross), highlighting promising future talent. Sami Wickremasinghe was the runner up in the nett junior event.

The women’s divisions were equally competitive with Keya Abhayaratne achieving a Nett–Gross double in the Silver Division while Dr Pravina Dunuwille ended as runner up. In the Bronze segment Liza Rebert and Mi Lim Sung shared honours. 

Niranjali Amarasuriya claimed the women’s Seniors Nett and Myungock Jane Hong won the Gross. Kalyan Ranasinghe accounted for the runner-up the nett segment of the women’s seniors. 

Special skill prizes for Longest Drive went to evergreen, Sachin de Silva in the 8th hole while V. T. Sundaralingam won the Nearest to the PIN in the 9th hole.
