Sri Lankan sports fans have plenty to look forward to this weekend with key Premier League fixtures, more play from The Ashes and a Formula 1 finale that will crown this year’s world champion.

Here’s a simple look at what’s coming up, with all times listed as Sri Lanka.

Arsenal go into the weekend top of the table on 33 points, five clear of second-placed Manchester City on 28. Aston Villa sit just a point behind City in third, continuing an impressive run, while Chelsea complete the current top four on 24 points. Just below them, Crystal Palace and Sunderland are both on 23 points, with Brighton, Liverpool and Manchester United tightly packed in behind.

Premier League Fixtures

The Premier League has four matches on Saturday, starting early and running late into the night.

A strong test for both sides, with Villa’s home form making this a tricky away trip for Arsenal

Bournemouth vs Chelsea – 8:30 PM
Chelsea will look to build some consistency, while Bournemouth aim to keep their improving performances in progress

Manchester City vs Sunderland – 8:30 PM
City are favourites at home, but Sunderland will hope to frustrate and counter where possible

A lively late fixture, with Leeds typically energetic at home and Liverpool pushing to stay in the top spots

Tuesday, December 9
Wolves vs Manchester United – 1:30 AM (early Tuesday)
A late night match for local fans, with United visiting Wolves in a fixture that’s often closer than expected

Cricket – The Ashes continues
The 2025/26 Ashes series between Australia and England moves into Day 3 and Day 4 over the weekend.

Australia currently lead the series 1–0, having taken the opening Test, and they’ll be keen to tighten their grip with another strong performance. England, meanwhile, will see these middle days as a chance to fight their way back and keep the series competitive.
Sri Lankan cricket followers can expect long sessions, tactical battles, and the usual intensity that comes with Ashes cricket.

Formula 1 – Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (Final Race of the Season)
The Formula 1 season wraps up in Abu Dhabi, and this year’s finale arrives with extra weight — the championship will be decided at Yas Marina Circuit.

Qualifying – Saturday, December 6 (7:30 PM – 8:30 PM)
Race – Sunday, December 7 (6:30 PM)
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is known for its sunset-to-night backdrop and tight layout, often producing dramatic endings.
With the title on the line, this year’s race should be one of the most watched events of the season.

A Weekend Full of Sporting Choice
With Premier League football, Ashes Test cricket and a title-deciding Formula 1 race, Sri Lankans have a well-rounded sports weekend ahead. Whether you prefer staying up for late kick-offs or tuning in for long cricket sessions, there’s plenty to keep fans entertained from Saturday through Monday.
