Vidyartha make clean sweep in trophy encounter

Vidyartha College beat St. Sylvester’s College 38 points (5 tries, 2 conversions, 3 penalties) to 14 points (1 try, 3 penalties) at the 11th P.M.L. Bandara and B. Nillegoda Memorial Trophy annual U-19 rugby encounter, which concluded at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy last weekend. The winners led 12-9 at half-time.

Vidyartha scored through Praveen de Mel (2), Ayodya Fernando, Hevin Karunaratne and Pamudhitha Narayan. Sadev Dilshara converted twice and added two penalties, while N. Nimesh slotted in the other penalty. Skipper Tishan Medagedera scored the solitary try and three penalties for St. Sylvester’s.

Vidyartha was led by Pasindu Rajapaksha and guided by Manoj Wijethunge, who stepped in as Head Coach for the clash.

In the 11 encounters played so far, Vidyartha has completed a clean sweep, winning all of them.
