Rajeew Perera
One of the country’s silent warriors in rugby, Rajeew Perera, has received a call-up to be the team manager and assistant coach of the Sri Lanka Sevens squad that is faced with an important schedule ahead.
Rajeew’s potential and prowess is yet to be exploited to the maximum and much is expected from his new posting provided politics and internal squabbles don’t endanger the interest of the Sri Lanka team that is now at the crossroads.
Rajeew is one of the most qualified and illustrious coaches in the country having successfully followed a World Rugby Level Two course in New Zealand and earned an Advanced Coaches’ Accreditation in South Africa that is testimony to his capability.
Rajeew started his rugby career at St. Peter’s College as a front row forward and is now a World Rugby Level 3 coach, educator and an internationally accepted trainer.
He captained Havelocks Sports Club for two years and wore the pink and chocolate jersey for 14 seasons and was a member of the Sri Lanka team that triumphed at the first ever A Division Five Nations championship.
Rajeew coached Havelocks, CH and FC, Police SC and the Peterites while also serving as the assistant coach of Sri Lanka as the team took the second slot in Asia in the Sevens segment and became champs in the Asian Five Nations.
