President’s College, Embilipitiya, newcomers to the school cricket circuit, emerged champions of the Under-15 Division Two inter-schools cricket tournament when they recorded a first-inning win over Royal Colombo ‘B’ in the final played at Bandaragama.
Royal Colombo ‘B’, winning the toss and electing to take first lease of the wicket, was struggling on 62/7 in the 33rd over before Sithuka Alwis, who made a top score of 44, and Nimsara de Silva shared a valuable 62 runs for the sixth wicket, enabling them to end with a score of 135. Pansilu Jeewaka and Rangith Randira, who together shared six wickets, did the early damage.
President’s College Embilipitiya, in their run chase too, underwent some anxious moments and was in a spot of bother at 89/6 in the 34th over despite a top knock of 47 coming from Sachintha Dilshan.
They were steered by some useful knocks in the latter stages of the innings from Pansilu, Prabashana Ruvin and Prameesha Premaratne, which helped them to surpass Royal College’s score to secure a first-inning win and to clinch the title.
