Under-13 Cricket : Riyon spins Royal to outright win

Left-arm spinner Riyon Perera put in a sterling bowling performance as he ended with impressive match bag figures of 14/54 to guide Royal to record a convincing outright win by eight wickets over St. John’s Panadura in the Under-13 inter-school cricket tournament encounter played at Reid Avenue.
Riyon grabbed nine scalps in the first inning for just 11 runs to send the Johnians, taking first lease of the wicket, reeling for a score of 56 runs. Royal, in reply, helped by an unbeaten half-ton by Thewan Wadiyanake, made a score of 124/4 declared.
Riyon got back to action again in Johnians’ second innings as he bagged five more scalps and combined with Ukitha Padmashantha, who ended with four scalps, to bowl them out for 93 runs, which left Royal a simple victory target of 26 runs.
The other matches played saw it ending in first-inning wins for St. Sylvester’s, St. Anthony’s Katugastota, Kalutara MV, Sri Devananda MV Ambalangoda and President’s College Kadawatha over Maliyadeva Kurunegala, St. Anne’s Kurunegala, Holy Cross Kalutara, Rahula Matara and Christ King College Ja-ela, respectively.
