As the highly anticipated Asia Rugby Men’s Championship Playoff between Sri Lanka and Malaysia kicks-off on April 19 at the Racecourse Grounds, the spotlight not only falls on the teams vying for a coveted spot in the next round but also on the seasoned match officials entrusted with overseeing the game.
Highly respected South African born referee now with the UAE Rugby Federation, Jaco De Wit will officiate as the Match Referee for the much looked forward event with the winners securing Asia Rugby Top 4 berth alongside, UAE, South Korea and Hong Kong.
A respected and consistent figure in Asian rugby officiating, Jaco brings a wealth of experience to the pitch. Known for his sharp decision-making and calm control under pressure, he has officiated in numerous high-stake matches across the region.
His familiarity with both teams and knowledge of the game at this level makes him a fitting choice to referee this crucial playoff.
He also had officiated World Cup Sevens encounters in his career. Jaco also officiated last year’s Bradby Shield encounter between Royal and Trinity in Colombo.
Meanwhile, J. P Clement and J. Aymen (South African Rugby Federation - SARF) will officiate as the two Assistant Referees for this vital encounter.
Dilroy Fernando of Sri Lanka will officiate as the Referees Manager for this encounter.
This match is not only vital for Sri Lanka and Malaysia’s aspirations in the Asia Rugby XV’s Championship 2025, but it also serves as an opportunity for match officials to demonstrate their capabilities on a big stage.
