U-14 Inter-Schools Boys/Girls Hockey Servo Challenge Trophy Isipathana U-14 outfit emerge runners-up

The runners-up Isipathana College Under-14 Hockey Team

Isipathana College’s Under-14 boys’ team, captained by Abdul Malik, emerged runners-up in the U-14 Inter-Schools Boys/Girls Hockey Servo Challenge Trophy boys’ category, showcasing their talents with splendid performances throughout the tournament. They went down to Elwala Vidyalaya in a single-series penalty shootout in a thrilling final after the game ended in a draw.

The tournament was organised and conducted by the Matale Hockey Club, sponsored by Servo, and played in Matale recently.

On an invitation by the Matale Hockey Club, around 24 boys’ and 16 girls’ teams from across the island participated in the 2025 tournament. Six boys’ and four girls’ teams were selected from Colombo.

In their league matches, the Isipathana beat Sri Parakum Vidyalaya 2–0, beat St. Anthony’s College 2–0, drew with Christ Church College 0–0, beat St. Peter’s College 3–2 on penalties, and beat St. Aloysius College 4–2.

In the knockout stage, they beat Maris Stella College 2–1 in the quarter-final, defeated Royal College 2–1 in the semi-final, and lost to Elwala Vidyalaya in a penalty shootout in the final.

Under the able leadership of Principal Dharshana Udawattage, the support and cooperation extended to the players were a tower of strength for this achievement. The guidance of Teacher-in-Charge Nayana Padmakumari, Head Coach Chamika Lanerolle, and Assistant Coach Kasun also contributed significantly as the junior players earned a reputed name in the field of hockey among other leading schools on the island.
