The final of the Under-19 Division 1 Tier A limited over tournament will be played today between defending champions Trinity and at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona from 9.45 a.m. onwards.
It’s going to be an interesting tussle as the two teams will be coming into the field with a mission and interestingly this is a repeat of the final of last year which the Trinitians came out victorious.
In the run up to the final, Trinity led by Malith Ratnayake defeated Nalanda by three wickets and traditional rivals St. Anthony’s by six wickets in the quarter and semi-final encounters.
The Josephians led by Kenath Liyanage booked the berth to the final by overcoming St. Servatius’, Matara by five wickets in the quarter-final and a convincing nine-wicket win over Gurukula MV Kelaniya in the semi-final.
With the two teams evenly balanced, the Trinitians will be looking for a repeat and also to retain the title while the Josephians will be seeking to take revenge and to lay their hands on the title which they were denied last year. A closely contested game is on the cards and the supporters of the two sides are assured of top class cricket in quest for the title.
