Trinity College were in a strong position in their 106th Battle of the Blues Hill Capital cricket encounter at the end of day two when they declared 314 for six at Katugastota yesterday.

When rain ended day two prematurely at around 2.00 p.m. the Antonians were 22 for one at stumps.

The Trinity innings was anchored by a series of solid partnerships, as Trinity’s top and middle order consistently accumulated runs. The batsmen demonstrated patience and technique, carefully building the innings before accelerating the scoring rate.

Their ability to capitalise on loose deliveries and rotate the strike kept the scoreboard ticking, eventually allowing the team to declare at a formidable 314 for six.

Trinity continued from their overnight score of 222 for four with the support of Vathila Udara (48) and Dinal Fernando (42 not out) and the visitors made the declaration on 314 for six.  Earlier, in the initial day Pulisha Thilakaratne made a superb 106 while Aadham Hilmy stroked a brisk 61 for the Trinity outfit.

In response, St. Anthony’s found themselves in a challenging situation early on. With just six runs on board, they lost Sadew Amarakoon to a duck.

The Antonians were cautious in their approach ending on 22 for one wicket when heavy rain prevented any further play shortly after the lunch break.

The weather at Katugastota played a decisive role, as persistent rain made conditions unplayable, forcing the umpires to call off the second day.

As both teams prepare for the next phase of the match, Trinity will be hoping to capitalise on their strong start while St. Anthony’s will aim to consolidate and build a competitive reply.

Former Sri Lanka wicket keeper, Mahesh Gunathilake will be the Chief Guest today, while Sri Lanka Cricket Ex-co, Samantha Dodanwela will be the Guest of Honour.
