The sudden death of Allaam Ousman came to all of us in the boxing fraternity as a shock as did it with his colleagues in the media.

I have known Allaam for 45 years. His elder brother, Ikraam predeceased him one year ago and his younger brother Lieutenant Hishaam paid the supreme sacrifice in the defence of his country 35 years ago.

The Ousman brothers captained the Royal College Stubbs Shield teams which is a unique achievement for boxing brothers. They left an indelible mark in the annals of Royal College boxing.

I was in Allaam’s corner during most of his memorable fights and developed a close rapport with him since then. After a distinguished school boxing career he became a highly respected sports journalist in Sri Lanka and abroad. He also coached the Royal College boxing team and qualified as a referee, judge and ITO and conducted a boxing academy named in memory of his late brother.
He was a religious, generous, humble and unassuming personality who earned the respect and regard of all those who associated with him.

He gave publicity to deserving sportsman and sportswomen and to the sport of boxing in his role as a journalist. His demise leaves a void among the boxing fraternity which will be hard to fill.

He was also a devoted family man and our condolences go out to his family. May his soul rest in peace. - (Priantha Malavi)
