For the first time in the country’s history S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia and Trinity College will compete head to head in a karate encounter today at the Thomian Sports Complex from 10.30 am.
It is a new and innovative initiative by S. Thomas’ under the leadership of Sensei Harinda Fonseka and teacher in charge Sharlini Cooray.
The two schools will compete in both Kata and Kumite team events under three age groups of under 14, under 16 and under 18 consisting of three weight categories.
The core benefits that are expected from this event are the holistic development of the teams, character building, enhancing spectator engagement and building community and school traditions.
Trophies will be awarded for the respective Kata and Kumite team winners from each age group. Shields will be awarded to the winners for the overall Kata and the overall Kumite events.
