Nadaraja Thangaraja
By Shamseer Jaleel
Sri Lankan professional golfer Nadaraja Thangaraja produced a masterful display of consistency and composure to clinch the Bengaluru Open 2025 held at the Karnataka Golf Association course recently. His remarkable four-round total of 18 under par secured a two-shot victory over Indian Manu Gundas, reaffirming Thangaraja’s stature as one of the most accomplished players on the PGTI circuit.
The tournament, returning after a six-year hiatus, attracted 126 golfers, including 124 professionals and two amateurs. The KGA’s pristine yet challenging layout with its slick greens, water hazards, and swirling wind tested every aspect of a golfer’s skill and temperament throughout the event.
Thangaraja’s dominance began early as he shot impressive rounds in the opening days. By the halfway mark, he had surged into the lead with an 11 under him, a clear advantage over the chasing pack. His precision with the irons and steady putting allowed him to maintain composure under pressure.
Going into the penultimate round, the Sri Lankan extended his lead to 5 strokes, positioning himself comfortably ahead of his rivals. His ability to handle the tricky greens and read the course conditions perfectly highlighted his experience and maturity.
On the final day, Thangaraja carded a solid 2 under 69, doing just enough to keep the rest of the field at bay. While Manu Gandas made a strong late push with a string of birdies, Thangaraja’s calm and controlled finish sealed the win.
Veteran Rahil Gangjee and young talent Saptak Talwar shared third place at 13 under 271, showing the depth of Indian professional golf.
