Teenage triple jumper Thehara qualifies for world meet

Triple jumper Thehara Fernando from Maris Stella College Thimbirigaskatuwa in Negombo qualified for the World U-20 Athletics championships to be held in the USA this year.

Fernando produced an outstanding performance with a distance of 15.74 metres to qualify at the selection trials held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama, Homagama.

He also qualified for the Asian U-20 Athletics Championships and secured first place in the triple jump at the selection trials.

Fernando is coached by Damitha Dahanayake.
