Sri Lankan referee applauded at World Boxing Championship

It was a proud moment for Sri Lankan boxing as an accomplished international boxing referee and Judge Wing Commander M.T.M. Safrask successfully officiated at the IBA World Boxing Championship, held in Dubai from December 3 to 13.

The prestigious global event brought together the world’s elite boxers and officials, highlighting the highest standards of international boxing.

It also marked the third IBA World Boxing Championship officiated by the Sri Lankan official, reflecting consistent excellence, experience and international recognition in the sport. 

During the championship, the official demonstrated exceptional professionalism and technical expertise by judging 53 bouts and refereeing seven, contributing significantly to the smooth and fair conduct of the competition according to the organisers.

“Officiating at a World Championship level requires not only deep knowledge of boxing rules and regulations but also sharp decision-making, neutrality and physical and mental endurance. 

“Being entrusted with such a high number of bouts is a clear testament to the confidence placed by the International Boxing Association (IBA) in the official’s capabilities,” an official said.

According to observers, the achievement adds further distinction to an already impressive international officiating career and serves as an inspiration to aspiring boxing officials in Sri Lanka while reinforcing the island’s growing presence and credibility in the global boxing arena.
