Sri Lanka cruised to a convincing 50-31 victory over Hong Kong in their 13th Asian Youth Netball Tournament opening match played in South Korea yesterday.

The tournament will be held from June 27 to July 4 with the participation of 11 countries from the Asian region.

Sri Lanka won the first quarter of the match 11-9, second quarter 15-5, third quarter 13-8 and the final quarter 11-9.

However, Hong Kong showed some resistance in the first and the last quarter as they kept the losing margin to just a couple of points.  

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Head Coach Hyacinth Wijesinghe said although Sri Lanka won the match, the Hong Kong team showed great composure.

The coach further added that Sri Lanka will need to improve their performances in the competition, even without international competition experience, by showcasing their skills in the remaining fixtures.

Sri Lanka will next play against India on June 29, Malaysia on June 30 and Singapore on July 1.
