Sri Lanka’s men’s and women’s national throwball teams are ready to deliver a strong performance at the Asian Throwball Championship, which will take place on May 2 and 3 in Batam Island, Indonesia.

Both teams are set to leave the island on April 30, carrying the hopes of the nation as they compete against the best in Asia.

The National Sports Selection Committee has appointed Captain Gihan Hansajith to lead the men’s team, with Udara Priyantha named as Vice-Captain. The squad also includes Dhanuja Thenuka, Tharindu Dhananjaya, Shenan Fernando, Sithika Methsilu, Nishantha Sachinas, Thineth Kavidya, Baum Nidana, Maleesha Danthasinghe, Mafil Kiran, and Kavisha.

Meanwhile, the women’s team will be led by experienced campaigner Achini Madushani, with Pakeerthan Kiruththika serving as her deputy. The squad blends seasoned players with fresh talent, featuring Pakeerthan Renuka, Kaneshwaran Rammiya, Ushani Madushika, Minali Barnes, Thilini Jayaratna, Subodha Gamage, Paskaran Sathurja, Vikshan Yogitha, and Kasuntha Thathsarani.

Officials say the championship in Indonesia will be an ideal opportunity for both teams to sharpen their skills and assess their readiness for the South Asian Games, a major regional sporting event where Sri Lanka hopes to make a strong impact.

Both squads have been undergoing intense training sessions in Colombo over the past few weeks and are determined to return home with medals in hand.
