The opening day of the Kandy Regional Junior Open Golf Championship 2025 at the Victoria Golf Resort (VGR) in Rajawella showed some brilliant golfing talent across all junior divisions.
In the Gold Division Boys (15 to 18) Jevahn Sathasivam surged to the top with a superb round of 71, setting the benchmark for his peers. He was in sparkling form on the opening day. He was closely followed by Reshan Algama with 73, while Adhithya Weerasinghe and Jacob Norton were tied on third place with 74, highlighting the tight competition. In the Gold Division Girls, Keya Abhayaratne took the lead with a score of 88 while Anumi Karunathilake was second with 91 and Sithara Lorance third with 92.
In the Silver Division 13 to 14 years Lavindu Premarathna took the lead with a strong 80, securing the lead. Udeera Bandara followed on 86 while Shahika Amarasinghe was third with 93. Their performances underlined the depth of talent while in the same segment Genuli Weerakoon with a score of 92 took the lead followed by Ravindran Keerthna with a score of 102.
In the Bronze Division Boys 11 to 12 years Yuvan Rathiskanth and Thuwakaran Prabagaran tied on first place with 61 each while Kenul Schofield was placed third with a score of 65. In the girls segment Sethuki Dinanya took the lead with a score of 72 followed by Fatima Zeeniya and Vihara Thisarani tied on second place with 73.
In the Bronze Division (Boys 11 to 12 years) Jaeden Sathasivam stormed ahead with a stellar 37 defending his title. Anuradapura boy, Abiman Abeywardhana too was in good form on second place tied with Janith Giruge.
Among the Bronze Division Girls (11 to 12) Dulkini Kangara took the top slot with a score of 46 while Sanath Sithumli was on second with 53 followed by Hakshara Pradeep with 58.
