The Athletic Federation of India (AFI) has postponed the upcoming 4th South Asian Senior Athletic Championship (SASAC) 2025 indefinitely.
The AFI had taken steps to hold this meet in Ranchi, India on May 3 and 5 but due to a sudden internal issue with the Indian Athletics authorities, steps have been taken to postpone it indefinitely, 10 days ahead of the schedule.
According to AFI internal sources, it is also reported that India has sought opinions from South Asian Athletics authorities regarding the possibility of holding the postponed tournament on June 13, 14 and 15.
Nearly 600 senior and junior athletes from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Maldives, Bhutan and India were preparing to participate in this meet, which has been postponed several times since 2024.
South Asian Athletics Authorities had agreed to conduct the SASAC in May as a warm-up event for the upcoming Asian Senior Athletics Championships (South Korea) and World Athletics Championships (Japan).
Meanwhile, Birmingham Commonwealth Games 100m Men’s bronze medallist Yupun Abekoon, who is currently living in Italy, had also confirmed his participation, according to sources.
According to the history of SASAC competitions, India has always been in the lead and Sri Lanka has been in second place.
