Solid SC’s three goal scorers Srimuralitharan Jabesh (jersey No.10) Mensah Prince (jersey No.29) and Henry Chibueze (jersey number 9) celebrate following their team’s victory over Police SC

Solid SC, the Anuradhapura-based football club, registered a comfortable 3-1 victory over Police SC in a fifth week match of the FFSL Champions league.

Organised and conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka FFSL, the Super Eight fixture took place at the Racecourse ground in Colombo on Sunday.

With this result, out of the five matches played so far, Solid SC has managed to cling on to two victories, suffering three defeats.

While Gayan Rivalddo’s equaliser during the 44th minute of the game neutralised Srimuralitharan’s goal scored in the 22nd minute of the first half, Henry Chibueze was able to extend the lead to 2-1 for Solid SC scoring a crucial goal during injury time of the first half. Menash Prince of Solid SC added the finishing touches to the victory with his goal in the 78th minute extending their lead to 3-1.

Another encounter on the same day, resulted in a stalemate as the game between St. Mary’s FC Jaffna and Java Lane FC Colombo settled for a goalless draw. Java Lane goalkeeper Asfaq Ayub was honored with the man of the match award for his heroic display with the gloves. The same could not be said of S. Rubanrahj of St. Mary’s as he was shown the red card in the 38th minute.

Despite the results of the two Sunday encounters, Pelicans SC Kuruneagla continue to dominate the Super Eight points table with 11 points, remaining unbeaten after three wins and two draws from their five encounters thus far.
