Shirantha Peiris, a veteran Sri Lankan rifle shooter and a former president of the National Shooting Sports Federation of Sri Lanka (NSSFSL), will contest the presidency of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL) at its election and claimed he will not tolerate officialdom.
Having served continuously in the position for eight years, the current NOSL president, Suresh Subramaniam, will not be contesting as he will not be eligible to run again under the amended Sports Act.
Peiris, who currently serves as the vice president of the NOCSL, will contest the upcoming election on April 25 for the 2025- 2029 term.
According to Peiris his main priority would be Sri Lankan athletes.
“We will place athletes first under our administration and I will not approve an Olympic Committee administration that works for the comfort of officials. The Olympic Committee must create opportunities for emerging talented athletes. My only goal is to focus on sports development and create a plan to win international medals rather than working for positions or privileges,” Peiris claimed.
