Second half rally takes Trinity past gallant Sumangala

Trinity College produced a superb second-half rally to register a commanding win over Sri Sumangala College, Kandy by 49 points (8 tries, 3 conversions, 1 penalty) to 15 points (2 tries, 1 conversion, 1 penalty) in their schools rugby clash at the Pallekele Rugby Stadium yesterday. 

The first half belonged to Sumangala though Trinity led. The visitors played some top class rugby in the initial half where the Trinitians were overwhelmed. After the turn around, the Lions played some extraordinary rugby to register an easy win.

The second half saw Trinity shift into top gear. Their forwards laid a strong foundation, winning the breakdowns and securing quick ball, while the backline showed pace and precision to tear through the Sumangala defence. Trinity’s fitness and game management shone, as they maintained high intensity throughout, leaving the visitors struggling to keep up.

Trinity scored their tries through Shrayan Sathishkumar, Shafraz Usmaan, Minula Yaddheige (2), Ammar Manzil, Manusha Silva, Nisith Kumarasinghe and Evin Jayasena scored. Two try conversions were taken by Shan Althaf while Sumangala tries were scored by S. Samarakoon and Mohamed Ifky. Samarakoon also put over a penalty plus try conversion.

Trinity won all the junior games. Under 16 by 34/0 and Second XV by 55/0
