Scotland routed Italy by 73 runs in their group stage match of the Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, India yesterday.
Italy’s gamble to win the toss and put the Scots in to bat first backfired on them as they conceded a 207 total to which they replied with 134 all out.
Scotland openers George Munsey (84) and Michael Jones (37) laid the platform for victory when they accounted for a first wicket alliance of 126 runs in 13.4 overs before parting company.
Munsey was the dominant partner as he plundered 13 fours and two sixes in making 84 in just 54 balls.
Italy in pursuit of the target had no answer to the off-spin of Michael Leask who grabbed four wickets after smashing an unbeaten 22 off just five balls with two sixes and two fours.
Scores:
Scotland 207 for 4 in 20 Overs (George Munsey 84, Michael Jones 37, Brandon McMullen 41, Michael Leask 22 not out)
Italy 134 in 16.4 overs (JJ Smuts 22, Harry Menenti 37, Benjamin Minenti 52, Michael Leask 4 for 17, Mark Watt 2 for 24)
