Former Sri Lanka rugby player and current assistant coach of the National Sevens team Rajeew Perera has received the nod to coach St. Peter’s College following the exit of Sanath Martis whose illustrious stint with the Peterites ended at the end of the 2025 inter school season.
Rajeew, a Peterite himself is a stalwart of rugby at the school that he stood by at all times even when the going was tough and has now reaped his reward.
Besides wearing the Sri Lanka Elephant jersey as hooker, Rajeew also donned the Pink and Chocolate colours at Havelocks for more than 10 years while captaining the club before hanging up his boots and starting a coaching career that has taken him places.
He is a World Rugby Level 3 Coach, Educator and accredited trainer after acquiring his Stripes in New Zealand and South Africa.
For the record Rajeew was a member of the Sri Lanka team that won the first Asian Five Nations championship.
He is also a founder member of the Sri Lanka Rugby Players Association.
At St. Peter’s he will have Amila Chathuranga as his Forwards coach, Randima Fernando as his Backs coach, Ransilu Jayathilala as Trainer, Rohan Ferdinando as Speed Trainer and Rukantha Silva as team physiotherapist.
