Ports Authority, Army, Hirdaramani and Air Force in volleyball finals

Ports Authority and Army booked places in the men’s final while Hirdaramani Sports Club and Air Force qualified for the women’s final of the Munchee National Super League Volleyball Tournament 2025 at the Provincial Council Stadium in Wathupitiwala, Gampaha.

The tournament, conducted under the guidance of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVB), featured eight men’s teams and seven women’s teams, showcasing the country’s top volleyball talent.

According to SLVB Vice President Mahinda Bandara, the finals are scheduled to be played on January 27, 2026, at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo. The men’s final will have Ports Authority take on Army while Hirdaramani Sports Club will clash with Air Force in the women’s championship match.

In a thrilling men’s semi-final, Ports Authority edged past Ceylon Electricity Board 3–2 in a closely fought encounter (25–21, 21–25, 26–24, 18–25, 15–12). The other semi-final saw Army overcome Air Force 3–2 after a tense five-set battle (25–27, 21–25, 25–16, 27–25, 15–13).

The women’s semi-finals produced more decisive results as Air Force defeated Navy 3–0 (25–17, 25–14, 25–18), while Hirdaramani secured a 3–1 victory over Army (25–23, 21–25, 25–11, 25–18) to advance to the final.

First inaugurated in 2006, the Munchee Super League Volleyball Tournament had been suspended for several years due to various reasons before its successful revival this year. 

Tournament sponsor Ceylon Biscuits Limited has announced attractive cash prizes, awarding Rs.150,000 each to the men’s and women’s champions, Rs 100,000 each to the runners-up and Rs 50,000 each to the third-place teams.
