St. Peter’s College routed Ananda College by 45 points to 3 in their pre-quarter final inter school knockout rugby tournament match at the Royal Complex ground in Colombo yesterday that marked the start of the new season.
The Peterites proved they were far more superior than their counterparts at Ananda and ran circles round their opponents at every given opportunity completely outplaying the opposition which did not stand a chance except for a penalty that came their way to rake in their three points.
There were times the Peterites took it easy and could have scored more tries than they did as they took a 19-3 lead at half time with three tries, two of which were converted.
The Peterite try machine was unstoppable in the second half and raced into a 39 points to 3 lead over Ananda which proved the contest was lop-sided in the curtain raiser.
There was nothing more that the Peterites had to prove under their new head coach Rajeew Perera who is no stranger having hooked for the school team in the past.
The Peterites finished the contest with their seventh try in the closing stages to romp home undisputed winners. (MSA)
