Nepal handed Sri Lanka their first defeat at the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Women’s Under-19 Volleyball Championship 2025, securing a 3–1 victory in their match played yesterday at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo.

The set scores read 25–18, 26–24, 19–25, and 25–20 in favour of Nepal. Despite Sri Lanka’s spirited comeback to win the third set 25–19, the visitors held their nerve to claim the final set and the match.

This was Sri Lanka’s first loss of the tournament, following their impressive 3–0 win over the Maldives in the opening encounter.

In other matches played yesterday, Kyrgyzstan defeated the Maldives 3–0 with scores of 25–21, 25–9, and 25–21, while Nepal beat Sri Lanka to record their first victory.

The CAVA Women’s Under-19 Championship, organized by the Central Asian Volleyball Association in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, is being held from November 4–9 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

The tournament follows a round-robin format with four participating countries — Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, and the Maldives.

Sri Lanka will next face undefeated Kyrgyzstan today (November 6) in their third preliminary round match. Kyrgyzstan currently leads the standings, with Sri Lanka and Nepal trailing behind, each with one win apiece.
