Nalanda’s Kenura and Visakha’s Senaya shine best

Men’s Singles champion Kenura Silva, Women’s Singles champion Senaya Hulangamuwa

The Western Province Ranking Table Tennis Championship 2025 reached an exciting conclusion on Sunday evening at the Bandaragama Indoor Stadium as Kenura Silva and Senaya Hulangamuwa took the honours as standout performers at the tournament.

The two-day event was organized by the Western Province Table Tennis Association in collaboration with the Nugegoda Table Tennis Club. A total of 536 participants competed across various age groups, showcasing the depth of talent in the region.

In the men’s Singles final, Kenura Silva of Nalanda College demonstrated his dominance by defeating Dewmeth Weerasena of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute with a score of 11/05, 14/12. His victory in the premier category was part of a highly successful weekend as he also secured the Under 13 boys’ Singles title by beating Binara Dharmapriya of Horizon College Malabe 11/06, 11/03. 

Although Kenura narrowly missed a third title, finishing as the runner-up in the Under 15 boys’ Singles event, his overall performance solidified his status as one of the tournament’s top athletes.

On the other side, Senaya Hulangamuwa of Visakha Vidyalaya claimed the women’s Singles title after a hard-fought battle against her schoolmate Ranuki Senaratne, winning 14/12, 09/11, 11/06. 

Senaya also dominated the junior circuit, winning the Under 15 girls’ Singles title and finished as a finalist in the Under 17 category, marking a prolific tournament with two titles and one runner-up finish.

The championship also featured intense competition in the youth divisions:
In the Under 19 category Yenuli Basnayake of Ladies’ College took the girls’ title while Danuk Lamasuriya of Ananda College triumphed in the boys’ category.

In the Under 11 segment Minuli Hettiarachchi of Horizon College International Malabe and K.D. Chrish of Loyola College, Bopitiya were crowned winners in the girls’ and boys’ divisions, respectively.

Under 07: The youngest competitors saw Nethara Gunaratne of Musaeus College was the youngest winner when she triumphed in the Singles final in a three-set thriller.
