400m female national champion Nadeesha Ramanayake has been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the IAAF World Athletics Championships to be held in Tokyo, Japan, from September 13–21.
With no Sri Lankan female athletes qualifying for the World Athletics Championships, the Sri Lanka Athletics Institute included Dilhani Lekamge (women’s javelin) and Nadeesha Ramanayake (women’s 400m) in the universality places offered by World Athletics. However, that opportunity has been given to Nadeesha Ramanayake.
Meanwhile, two male athletes and one female athlete have already secured their places to represent Sri Lanka at the upcoming IAAF World Athletics Championships. Sri Lanka’s top-level men’s javelin throwers Rumesh Tharanga and Rio Olympian Sumeda Ranasingha have directly qualified.
