Sri Lanka’s national modern pentathlon champions, Isiwaruna De Silva and Gayani Dasanayake, have qualified for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan (2026) following their performances at the Asian Modern Pentathlon Championships in Japan last week.

Both athletes are members of the Air Force, and their results secured the country’s eligibility to compete in the modern pentathlon discipline at the continental multi-sport event.

Modern pentathlon, introduced to Sri Lanka in 2016, combines fencing, swimming, obstacle course, laser shooting and running. The sport has been developed nationally over the past decade under the guidance of the Modern Pentathlon Federation of Sri Lanka (MPFSL).

Sri Lanka now prepares to compete in the 2026 Asian Games, marking a historic milestone for the country in this Olympic discipline.
