Maris Stella College Negombo and Lyceum International School Wattala emerged as the boys’ and girls’ overall champions respectively at the 93rd Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletics Championship 2025 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa stadium yesterday. 

Maris Stella accumulated 115 points to claim the boys’ title while Lyceum International collected 239 points to secure the girls’ crown. 

In individual events, Amomal Akalanka of Ambagamuwa Maha Vidyalaya won the under-20 boys’ 400m hurdles in 50.51 seconds and Jithma Wijethunga of Lyceum International completed the under-20 girls’ 400m in 53.67 seconds, earning both the “Most Outstanding Boy and Girl Athlete” awards. Both athletes are expected to compete internationally.. 

Events were held across three age categories of under 16, under 18 and under 20 for boys and girls producing 26 new competition records. In the boys’ sportsmanship category, St. Benedict’s College scored 98 points while the girls’ sportsmanship award went to Walala Rathnayake Vidyalaya with 158 points. Lyceum International School (Wattala) and Dharmapala Vidyalaya claimed third place in the overall boys’ and girls’ standings, respectively.
