Lakshan bags silver at Asian Youth Meet

Sri Lanka’s promising athlete Janith Lakshan of St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy won a silver medal on the opening day of the Sixth Asian Youth Under-18 Athletic Championship, held in Dammam, Saudi Arabia yesterday.

This is the first medal won by the Sri Lankan contingent, which includes 19 athletes including 12 male and seven female competitors. 

Lakshan came second in the Boys’ triple jump event with a performance of 15.10m while his countrymen Hansana Jayasinghe secured seventh place with an effort of 14.55m.

The gold medal in this event was won by Dong Zhiyuan of China with 15.53m. The competition is scheduled to end today.
