Reigning league champions Kandy Sports Club have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2025/2026 rugby season further cementing their dominance in Sri Lankan rugby by being able to enlist a player after the retirement of play-maker Tarinda Ratwatte.

The hill country giants have once again shown their commitment to nurturing young talent while blending experience and youth in pursuit of continued success.

Former Science College and Sri Lanka player, Akash Madushanka has joined Kandy SC from Police SC, adding depth and flair to their backline. Known as one of the most dynamic attacking three-quarters in the local circuit, Madushanka’s entry comes at a crucial time following the retirement of veteran playmaker Tarinda Ratwatte.

His inclusion is expected to bring renewed energy and creativity to Kandy’s offensive game.

In a further boost, Kingswood skipper and scrum half, Thaveesha Ekanayake, the younger brother of Dinal Ekanayake, and Rivin Baudawin have also committed with the club, underlining Kandy’s long-standing tradition of grooming top school talent.

Meanwhile, Trinity College stars, Manusha Silva and Ishara Premachandra are set to join the team in early December, adding more youthful bite and potential to an already formidable lineup.
