Holy Cross girls outsmart Colombo’s elite

Holy Cross College, Gampaha became victorious at the All Island Inter School Under-13 Girls “D” Division team badminton Championship at the Municipal Indoor Stadium, Kandy organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association.

The Holy Cross girls displayed a flawless performance throughout the competition as they marched their way to a historic victory with the guidance of head coach Mahesha Ekanayake.

In the preliminary rounds, Holy Cross College defeated Maliyadeva Adarsha Maha Vidyalaya, Kurunegala (3–0), Yasodara Vidyalaya, Colombo (3–0), Buddhist Ladies College, Colombo (3–0), and Princess of Wales College, Moratuwa (3–0) in what was an unstoppable show by the girls who are now expected to perform at a higher level in the ensuing years.

In the final Holy Cross again defeated Maliyadeva Adarsha Maha Vidyalaya, Kurunegala with a 3–0 score to claim to prove they were no pushovers and in the process bagged the championship title.

Pushpa Perera was the team’s teacher in charge.
