Kandy Kings have officially entered Sri Lanka golfing landscape, bringing renewed energy and ambition to the sport with their debut season in the Ceylon Golf League (CGL) franchise, a brand identity inspired by Kandy’s heritage, regal pride and cultural strength with Softlogic Holdings been the title sponsor of the outfit.
Team Principal, Michael Sathasivam emphasised that the franchise embodies the values long associated with Kandy honour, history and pride. He noted that the team aims to build a fan base that goes beyond city borders while offering thrilling golf at the highest competitive level.
The Kings enter the League with a formidable roster selected at the CGL auction, featuring rising talents Jevahn Sathasivam, Darshan Veeragarahavan, Gehan Siribaddana, Chandana Gunasekera, Bandula Weerasinghe, Rajitha Siriwardena, Ashan Welagedera, Siddarth Hidaramani Dihan Dehigama, Cindy Siegertsz, Jade Jiggens, Ahalya Rajan, Roshini Sangani and Dhanushi Wanasinghe who bring depth and experience.
Softlogic Holdings highlighted their commitment to advancing Sri Lanka’s evolving golf landscape, noting that the rise of junior players and growing international participation make this the ideal moment to support a professional franchise. According to Softlogic, their partnership strengthens the team’s mission to contribute to the sport’s momentum and expand community engagement.
A robust lineup of supporting partners further elevates the franchise that includes George Stuarts, Amari Colombo, Rockland Distilleries, Marina 888, HNB Assurance, Epic Lanka, Soul Brewology, District25, Crossfit Ceylon, Wealth Trust Securities and Softlogic Stock Brokers. Their collective support shows the confidence in the league’s long-term vision. They have the backing of the HI, Daily Mirror and The Sun as media partners.
The Ceylon Golf League, Sri Lanka’s first franchise-format golf tournament, will take place from 5 to 7 December at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC). With eight city-based teams competing across multiple formats, the event marks a historic moment energised by the arrival of the Kandy Kings and the excitement they bring to the national golfing stage.
