Gayanjali to lead Sri Lanka at Asian Netball Tournament

 Senior netball player Gayanjali Amarawansa will lead the Sri Lanka Team at the 12th Asian Netball Championships from September 3 to 11 in Singapore.  


 Amarawansa has been representing the Sri Lanka Team for more than five years and she has participated in two previous Asian Championships and in one World Cup Netball Tournament.  


 Meanwhile, another experienced player Dulangi Wannithilaka, who has represented the national team for several years, has been named as the Vice Captain of the Sri Lanka Team for this 11-team tournament.  


 The 12-member touring squad has been approved by the Sports Minister and the significant inclusion to the Sri Lanka Team is Tharjani Sivalingam, who has been named despite not participating in any trials conducted by the Sri Lanka Netball Association.   


 Sivalingam has been granted permission to participate in this tournament and she is set to arrive in Singapore direct from Australia.  


 The champions and the runners-up of the Asian Netball Championships will qualify to play in the 2023 Netball World Cup in South Africa.  


 The defending champions Sri Lanka will take on India on September 3 and the Philippines on September 5 in the preliminary round fixtures.  


The Sri Lanka Squad: Gayanjali Amarawansa (Captain), Dulangi Wannithilake (Vice-Captain), Tharjani Sivalingam, Hasitha Mendis, Gayani Dissanayaka, Chathurangi Jayasooriya, Semini Alwis, Deepika Darshani, Bhashini de Silva, Malmi Hettiarachchi, Idushan Jayani and Rashmi Divyanjali.
