Gateway excels in prestigious scrabble events

Gateway College has once again demonstrated exceptional talent in scrabble, securing remarkable victories at several highly competitive tournaments.

The TISSL Scrabble Tournament 2024/2025, hosted by Burhani Serendib School, witnessed Gateway’s dominance as their Under-18 team emerged as champions. 

The winning team comprised: Adheesha Dissanayake, Ilham Irshaad, Tharun Priyadarshan, Aneesha Abeygunawardena, and Risath Sathnindu.

In the Under-16 category, Gateway finished as runners-up, with an impressive line-up of players: Imad Irshad, Inam Irshaad, Iyaad Irshaad, Dulain Wanigasekara and Shanilka Rodrigo.

Additionally, individual accolades were awarded to: Best Player: Adheesha Dissanayake, Highest Word Scorer: Ilham Irshaad, Under-18 Highest Game Scorer: Imad Irshaad. 

Gateway continued their winning streak at the Royal College Scrabble Bash 2025, with their Under-20 team emerging as champions.  The victorious team included: Adheesha Dissanayake, Ilham Irshad, Inam Irshad, Iyaad Irshad and Tharun Priyadarshan.

Individual accolades from the tournament included: Best Player: Adheesha Dissanayake, Highest Game Scorer: Imad Irshaad. The remarkable achievements of Gateway at these prestigious tournaments are a testament to their dedication, strategy and intellectual prowess in scrabble. 

Their continuous success highlights the school’s commitment to nurturing young talent in mind sports. The players have achieved extraordinary milestones, further solidifying their reputation in scrabble, both nationally and internationally.
