FIFA appoints FFSL Chief Jaswar Umar to Grassroots and Amateur Football Committee

World governing body FIFA has appointed Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) President Jaswar Umar to its prestigious Committee for Grassroots and Amateur Football.

The appointment comes at a significant time for Sri Lankan football, which has witnessed rapid growth under Umar’s leadership over the past 18 months. His strategic vision and reform-driven approach have reshaped the country’s football structure, enhancing professionalism, governance, and performance standards.

Under his guidance, the national team has shown steady improvement, emerging as the only South Asian nation still in contention for Asian Cup qualification. This achievement reflects the success of the federation’s structured reforms and professional management.

Umar’s progressive administration has brought renewed credibility to Sri Lankan football, earning international recognition for its development efforts.

With his new role at FIFA, Umar will now contribute his expertise to advance grassroots and amateur football globally, strengthening the foundation of the sport.
