Sri Lanka Police Sports Club and New Star Sports Club, Colombo, recorded convincing victories in the third week matches of the FFSL Champions League 2025–2026, played yesterday at the Racecourse Ground, Colombo.

The tournament, conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL), features 14 teams and is scheduled to be played every weekend at the Racecourse venue.

In yesterday’s encounters, Sri Lanka Police SC cruised to a 5–0 win over Matara City SC, while New Star SC registered the biggest victory of the tournament so far with an emphatic 8–0 triumph over SLTB SC.

These victories marked the second consecutive wins for both Sri Lanka Police SC and New Star SC in the ongoing league. In the opening week, Sri Lanka Police SC defeated Super Sun SC 3–1, while New Star SC overcame Negombo Youth SC by a 3–0 margin.

The Police SC vs Matara City SC match lacked competitiveness from the outset, with the Police team taking a comfortable 2–0 lead by halftime. Hussein Abdullah led the scoring with two goals in the 33rd and 85th minutes. Damith Samantha (27th minute), Dayabaran Selwaraj (50th minute), and Erudayarasa Thanujan (90+3 minute) added one goal each to complete the dominant performance.

The clash between New Star SC and SLTB SC was even more one-sided. New Star SC raced to a 4–0 lead at halftime and piled on four more goals in the second half to seal an overwhelming 8–0 victory. This result stands as the highest number of goals scored against a single opponent so far in the tournament.

Meanwhile, FFSL’s Competition Committee had earlier postponed two weekends of matches due to adverse weather conditions that affected the entire country in recent weeks.

With momentum firmly on their side, both Sri Lanka Police SC and New Star SC have emerged as early contenders in the FFSL Champions League, as the competition continues to gather pace.
