Club of the elites SSC demoted among the lesser mortals

One of the country’s elite cricket playing entities, the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) will not be among the teams that will play in Sri Lanka’s major domestic cricket tournament the Major Club Tier ‘A’ three day cricket tournament.
The reason being they have failed to qualify after a poor showing at the last tournament and demoted to the B division.
The matches will get underway from December 5 after current weather conditions forced a postponement.
The tournament will have 14 teams in action divided into two groups of seven teams in each with reigning champions Bloomfield along with Colts, CCC, Police SC, Pandura SC, Chilaw Marians and Nugegoda S&WC slotted in Group ‘A’.
Runner up NCC, Moors SC, Ace Capital CC, Tamil Union, Badureliya CC, BRC and Kurunegala YCC are the teams in Group ‘B’.
Besides SSC, Ragama CC, Negombo CC and Kandy Customs CC have been demoted to the Tier ‘B’ category having ended at the bottom of the table last season.
Meanwhile 12 teams will clash against one another in the B category with SSC, Ragama CC, Galle CC, Kandy Customs CC, Army SC, Moratuwa SC, Sebastianites, Navy SC, Negombo CC, Leo CC, United Southern SC and Malay CC forming the lineup.

Bloomfield vs Chilaw Marians CC at Galle, Colts CC vs Panadura SC at NCC, Police SC vs CCC at Colts, BRC vs NCC at Maggona, Badureliya CC vs Moors SC at P Sara Stadium and Tamil Union vs Ace Capital CC at Sooriyawewa.


Match schedule Tier ‘B’:
Galle CC vs United Southern at Anuradhapura, Army SC vs Sebastianites at Panagoda, Moratuwa SC vs SSC at Moratuwa, Navy SC vs Negombo CC at Welisara and Malay CC vs Ragama CC at BRC.
