Sri Lanka’s Chanaka Perera and Sachin de Silva were victorious, clinching the prestigious Zia Ul Haq Trophy at the 134th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship at the Royal Colombo Golf Club beating both Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Chanaka Perera carded a composed 71, while Sachin de Silva delivered a fine 70, combining brilliantly to secure the team title. Their triumph not only highlighted individual brilliance but also underlined Sri Lanka’s growing strength in regional golf.
In the men’s segment, the top 32 players booked their berths to the knock out stages. Defending champion, Jevahn Sathasivam, Reshan Algama, Chanaka Perera, Sachin de Silva, Chalitha Pushpika, Kushan Johnpillai, Adithya Weerasinghe and a few local golfers plus some overseas players from Pakistan, India and Bangladesh booked their berths in the knock out stage.
The women’s Gross Leader Board produced an exciting lineup of top contenders, with the leading eight players qualifying for the quarterfinals after two competitive rounds.
At the top of the table Kaya Daluwatte stood well ahead with an impressive aggregate of 142, followed by Asmara Sawhney, Anouk Chitty, Keya Abhayaratne, Jade Jiggens, Dinuka Borelessa, Sadamali Sumanaratne and Tiru Jesudason.
With the knock out stages on now in both men’s and women’s event, the final will take place at the RCGC on Sunday.
