Bangladesh opener Saif Hassan and Strength and Conditioning coach Nick Lee have tested positive for COVID-19, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced yesterday.
The Board’s Medical Team had collected samples from the 24-member (17 players and 7 staff) group on Monday as the squad prepares to leave to Sri Lanka on September 27.
Incidentally, Lee had earlier reported positive on August 14 in Dubai, UAE but returned a negative result on August 23 after 10 days in isolation. He also completed a 14-day self-quarantine on arrival in Dhaka prior to yesterday’s test.
According to Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin, 37 cricketers, including members of the Test and High Performance Squad, scheduled to tour Sri Lanka will have to go through Coronavirus test.
BCB officials said that doors were not closed for Saif or any other who may tested positive in the coming days. “We will keep Coronavirus positive players under our intensive observation. We will test them again after a certain period. Their future will depend on the next test,” said the official.
BCB is planning a week-long residential camp ahead of the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. The residential camp is set to begin on September 21 while the BCB will conduct COVID-19 tests in four phases with the other three tests scheduled on September 18, 21 and 24, with the final test scheduled 72 hours before they take the flight to Sri Lanka.
