All Island Schools 2025: Isipathana U-16 hockey team declared joint champs

The Isipathana College Under-16 hockey team, captained by Mandiv Ranasinghe, showcased their best talents throughout the All Island Schools Under-16 Hockey Championship 2025 and were declared Joint Champions after the final against Vidyartha College, Kandy, was called off due to bad weather. The tournament, organised and conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Federation under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, was played at the Uyanawatte Stadium, Matara, recently.
Isipathana College competed in the schools’ “A” Division, with 32 teams vying for the championship. Divided into eight groups, Isipathana was placed in Group “D” along with St. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, St. Aloysius College, Galle, and Hindu College, Matale.
In their league matches, they beat S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia 1–0, St. Aloysius’ College, Galle 3–0, and Hindu College, Matale 1–0 to emerge as champions in their group.
Qualifying for the pre-quarterfinal, they beat Maris Stella College, Negombo, on penalty strokes (4–3) after a 1–1 draw. In the quarter-final, they beat President’s College, Maharagama 1–0, and in the semi-final, they defeated Zahira College, Matale, on penalty strokes (5–4) after another 1–1 draw. 
A.M.M. Saad was the star of the tournament, scoring nine goals, while G. Methupa Vishwajith Perera was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper.
In the history of Isipathana College Hockey, it was in 1992 that they last emerged as champions of the All Island Schools Tournament, beating St. Benedict’s College, Colombo 1–0. This victory, therefore, comes after 33 years.
