Algama storms ahead at Kandy junior golf

The second day of the Kandy Regional Junior Open Golf Championship 2025 at the Victoria Golf Resort produced thrilling battles across all divisions as young golfers displayed both skill and composure as the leaderboard began to take shape.

In the Boys’ Gold Division (15–18 years), Reshan Algama stormed ahead with rounds of 73 and 70 for a superb total of 143. Just one stroke behind was Jevahn Sathasivam who carded 71 and 73 for an aggregate of 144 keeping the contest finely balanced. Jevahn was leading on day one and both top class juniors go in to the third day with a mouth-watering final day’s clash in the Central Hills.

In the Girls’ gold division, Keya Abhayaratne with two rounds 88 and 85 was ahead while Sithara Lorance was placed second with two rounds of 92 and 85.

The Silver division saw Lavindu Premarathna take the lead with consistent rounds of 80 and 82, totalling 162. Udeera Bandara followed with 86 and 91 for a score of 177, ensuring a tight contest ahead. In the Silver division, Genuli Weerakoon 92 and 95 with a total of 187 hold the lead. Venudi Keerthana 102 and 103 was second with an aggregate of 205.

In the Boys’ Silver Division (13–14 years), T Prabagaran dominated with scores of 61 and 63 for a remarkable 124. He was closely followed by Kenul Schofield who fired 65 and 62 to finish just three shots adrift at 127.

The Girls’ Silver Division was equally close, with Fathima Zeeniya shining at 73 and 65 for 138. Thisarani Herath was only a single stroke behind, posting 73 and 66 for 139.

In the Boys’ Bronze Division (11–12 years), Jaeden Sathasivam, the defending champion showed consistency with twin rounds of 37, totaling 74. Abhiman Abeywardhana was second with 39 and 38 for 77, just three shots behind.

The Girls’ Bronze Division belonged to Dulkini Kangara who carded 46 and 47 for 93. Sithumali Thangaraja (RCGC) followed at 53 and 51, totaling 104 to secure runner-up.

Day two proved decisive, setting up a gripping finale as the juniors head into the last round with titles still within reach across all segments today.
