Akshu’s final rites today

The funeral of former Youth World Cup cricketer Akshu Fernando (34) will take place today at the general cemetery in Mount Lavinia at 4 pm.
Akshu passed away on Tuesday unable to get back onto his feet after he was hit by a train as he crossed the rail tracks at Mount Lavinia after a beach training session with his Ragama Cricket Club team-mates on December 28, 2018.
He was in a coma for several years after the tragedy.
Akshu wore the Sri Lanka cap at the 2010 Youth World Cup in New Zealand and his Ragama Cricket Club team-mates will wear black arm bands in his memory in a domestic match of the Major Clubs championship on Friday.
