Sri Lanka’s Denethma Ekanayake clinched the Girls U14 singles title of the ATF Under 14 Week 1 Girls and Boys tennis tournament by recording a comfortable two sets to nil over Sheshandri Fernando in the final played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo.
Meanwhile, the boys’ singles first final between Alex Adimata of the Philippines and Shun Wing Leung of Hong Kong was hampered by rain, and the organisers were forced to call it off with the two players tied on four each in the first set, and they were declared joint champions.
The ATF is being held under the guidance of the Asian Tennis Federation, with the Sri Lanka Tennis Association being the host, and is being contested by over six countries. The ATF U14 Girls and Boys Week 2 tournament is scheduled to get underway today at the same venue.
Result:
Girls’ Singles Finals: Denethma Ekanayake (Sri Lanka) beat Sheshandri Fernando (Sri Lanka) 2-0 (4/1, 4/1)
