AF shines at Defence Services Swimming Meet

Air Force Men’s and Women’s swimming team with officials

The 13th Defence Services Swimming and Water Polo Championships 2024/25 concluded successfully at the Aquatic Sports Complex, Sri Lanka Air Force Base in Ratmalana.

Pilot Officer J. M. S. Savindi captured the spotlight by setting a remarkable benchmark, securing five gold medals in individual swimming events.  

Notably, she also achieved the same feat during the previous year edition of the Games, thereby making history with her consistent and outstanding performance.

The Air Force Women’s Swimming Team emerged as overall champions, demonstrating exceptional skill and dominance in the pool. 

Meanwhile, the Air Force Women’s Water Polo Team reinforced their supremacy by securing the overall championship title without significant resistance from their counterparts.

In the Men’s competitions, the Air Force Men’s water polo team exhibited a remarkable performance to secure the championship title while the Air Force Men’s swimming team finished as runners-up, highlighting their strong presence in aquatic sports.

The awards ceremony was honoured by the presence of Director General Air Operations and Chairman Aquatics Sports of Air Force Air Vice-Marshal Deshapriya Silva, who graced the event as the Chief Guest.

The event was also attended by notable dignitaries, including the Commander of the 613 Infantry Brigade and Vice-Chairman of Aquatic Sports in the Army, Brigadier P. G. C. S. Gallage, the Base Commander of Air Force Base Ratmalana, Air Commodore Amitha Jayamaha, senior officers from the tri-services, referees from the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union and representatives from national aquatic sports bodies.
