Sri Lanka is set to make history this month as a 15-member classic powerlifting squad competing in five divisions heads to Thailand for the prestigious Pro World Powerlifting Championship taking place from November 27 to 30.
This marks the first time such a large and diverse group of Sri Lankan powerlifters will compete on a professional league platform, signaling a major milestone for the sport in the country.
This year’s championship is expected to draw top pro athletes from around the world, creating an electrifying and highly competitive arena.
Against this elite global backdrop, Sri Lanka will be represented across multiple divisions—Open Men, Open Women, Masters Men, Masters Women and Junior—showcasing the nation’s depth of talent and strength across all categories.
The Sri Lankan team includes one promising junior boy, four powerful female lifters and 10 strong men, each bringing exceptional discipline and pride to the nation. Their participation highlights the rapid growth of powerlifting in Sri Lanka and the rising potential of athletes from all age groups.
