92nd Battle of the Saints: Joes batters tantalise and fall

Yenula Dantanarayana and Senuja Wakunugoda both missed out on centuries for the taking as St. Joseph’s College batting first ended the first day on 281 for 5 against traditional rival St. Peter’s College in their 92nd Battle of the Saints match at the SSC ground in Colombo yesterday.
A third half century was made by Aveesha Samasah who struck 53 before his opening partner Dantanarayana hit 84 and Wakunugoda made 88.
The Joes score came on the back of two valuable partnerships with Dantanarayna and Samash putting on 85 for the first wicket followed by Dantanarayana and Wakunugoda associating in a 134 runs stand for the second wicket as the Peterite bowlers toiled with limited success on a hard day for them.
Dantanarayana hit 12 boundaries while Wakunugoda spiced his innings with 15 fours.
The match will be continued today.
