59 athletes, 20 officials at South Asian athletics

The Department of Sports Development has announced that Sri Lanka will field a team of 59 athletes at the upcoming fourth South Asian Senior Athletics Championship (SASAC) in India from October 24 to 26.

Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, the Maldives and host India are in the fray while Pakistan has withdrawn from the event. Sri Lanka has the largest contingent outside of the host India, comprising 30 male athletes, 29 female athletes and 20 officials including coaches.

Historically, India has won the most number of gold medals at the SASAC, while Sri Lanka has consistently secured second place in all previous editions.
